BEEN THE BADDEST - SHAUNESSY AFTERS SESSION
For Shaunessy, the dance floor has always been about liberation.
Born in Lebanon to Armenian parents and shaped by a life that has taken him through Toronto, Scotland and now New York City, his journey has always been defined by movement — across borders, cultures and identities. That perspective sits at the heart of his music. For Shaunessy, the dance floor is one of the rare places where people can shed the outside world and fully inhabit their bodies. His sets blend house, house-tech, disco and amapiano into groove-driven journeys designed to make people feel sexy, alive and just a little mischievous.
His story began at a rooftop party in New York City that quickly became the stuff of legend. What started as a casual set for friends turned into an atmosphere so electric the police eventually shut it down. In the months that followed, Shaunessy immersed himself in his musical craft. Refining his sound, studying the art of DJing and building relationships within the scene. That dedication gradually carried him onto dance floors across Brooklyn, Toronto, Cannes and Amsterdam, including appearances at Other Side, a venue known for hosting many Amsterdam Dance Event’s underground gatherings.
In mid-September 2025, flying home to New York after a set in Amsterdam, Shaunessy watched the film Sinners on the plane. The scene featuring the song “I Lied To You” moved him deeply. It wasn’t just entertainment. It pushed him to elevate his craft. Soon after landing, he enrolled in a mentorship program and began spending 40–50 hours a week outside his corporate career learning Ableton and translating the emotional energy of his DJ sets into music of his own.
His first edit, “I Lied To You,” arrives March 10th at 6:57 PM EST — sunset in New York City — a nod to the film’s striking sunset imagery, symbolism and the moment when the night begins to awaken.
For Shaunessy, the dance floor offers something rare: the luxury of liberation. A space where people can let go, feel sexy, embrace a little mischief, and remember that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply allow yourself to be free.
